Building and fortifying an individual’s resiliencies can begin to be developed at an early age or can develop over time. External and internal mechanisms can be utilized to build resiliency in vulnerable individuals. If the seeds for resiliency can be planted early in the life of the individual, then it is less likely that this person will develop suicidal tendencies in later life. However, even in later life, resiliencies can be built that may be just as powerful in thwarting depression and subsequent suicidal thought or action.
